A few weeks ago I found an old journal. I don’t tend to keep my journals, but for some reason, I had held onto this one. It was from January 2020, and in it I had written about where I wanted to be in 5 years time. Here’s what was on the list:
My business is thriving and I’m fully booked with dream coaching clients
I regularly speak at events and host workshops
We have bought our dream house
I’ve written and published a book
We have two kids and a strong and healthy marriage
We have strong relationships with our family and friends
When I wrote that vision down in 2020, it felt bold and audacious. My business was just a few months old, and I was a long way away from being fully booked or asked to speak at an event. I’d just waved goodbye to a solid and stable income and a generous maternity leave plan - I had no idea whether we would ever be able to get a bigger mortgage or how we’d afford to add a kid or two into the mix with a self-employed income. And writing a book felt like nothing more than a pipedream.
And yet, I remember that when I wrote that vision, I felt completely aligned to it. It felt rooted in my values, and picturing it gave me that fluttery feeling in my stomach that lets me know I’m onto something good. I didn’t have a plan (and I was blissfully unaware that we were about to enter a global pandemic), but I allowed myself to dream anyway.
5 years on, every single thing on that list has come to fruition (or will do over the course of the next few months). If anything, my life now feels even more vibrant than the one I’d pictured back in 2020. And I don’t share that to brag - I share it to highlight how important it is to set a direction for our lives.
If we don’t know what we’re aiming for, it can be really bloody difficult to know where to put our energy. If we don’t know what we’d like to achieve or experience, it can be hard to make decisions that feel authentic to us. And if we don’t know where we’d like to be in 5 years time, it can feel impossible to know what we should be striving for in the next 12 months.
I wholeheartedly believe that setting that vision 5 years ago has been the catalyst for so much of the joy, progress and achievement I’ve experienced so far this decade. I’m ready to set my vision for the next 5 years, and I want to help you do the same thing.
Let’s create our 5 year plans together. Let’s dream and explore together, and plot and plan together, so by the time 2030 rolls around, life is feeling more joyful than ever.
The time is going to pass anyway. Let’s put it to good use.
Over the course of January, we’ll get together for 3 workshops (hosted on Zoom, and recorded if you can’t join us live) that will help us to reflect on the last 5 years, set the vision for the next 5 years, and then create a 2025 plan of action that gets you started.
You can see what will be covered in each workshop in more detail here:
